HFW climbs to No. 203 in ENR’s Top 500 ranking of AEC Design firms

The HFW Companies (HFW) climbed the charts once again in Engineering News Record’s (ENR’s) annual ranking of the top 500 architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) design firms, rising this year to 203rd , thanks to the continued growth and expansion of its nationwide HFW Partner Network.

HFW moved up 39 places from its 2024 ranking of 242 – for a total of 78 places from its 2023 debut ranking at 281 on the ENR’s Top 500 list. Behind the latest ranking is HFW’s total combined revenue of $128 million last year. Of that total, 63 percent came from general building design, and transportation projects drove another 17 percent, according to the ENR report. Water supply, as well as sewer/waste, accounted for another combined 17 percent, while 4 percent came from manufacturing.

“We’re delighted to be recognized for our growth across our HFW Partner Network, both organically and by acquisition, as we continue to build our national AE network,” said Michael Hein, AIA, CEO of HFW. “This latest ENR ranking serves as a testament to one of our core values: building upon our success.”

The founders of HFW, an AE-industry professional services firm, launched HFW only five years ago to invest in and build a national, collaborative, multidisciplinary portfolio of legacy firms. As of the end of 2024, its portfolio had grown to nine HFW Partner firms and included two additional company mergers by its partners. Collectively, the network now employs nearly 700 people from multiple offices in Florida, Texas, South Carolina, and Iowa, as well as in Georgia, Missouri, Illinois, and Nevada.

“We’re happy to report that, in only five years, we’re well on our way to achieving our vision for a lasting, preeminent AE network of partners,” Hein said. “Together, we’re reshaping collaborative infrastructure design on a national scale, and we’re grateful for that recognition by ENR as one
of the top 200-plus AEC design firms in the country.” The HFW Partner Network, as of the end of 2024, included the following:
